The President of the Republic (PR), Daniel Chapo, argued today that the review of the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique (CRM) should lead to the elimination of inconsistencies that could potentially cause demonstrations during election periods. According to Chapo, the review of the CRM is based on three pillars, namely, reform of the State: the political system, powers of the PR, depoliticization of State institutions, decentralization, political, economic and financial deconcentration; reform of the justice system: mechanisms for appointing the heads of justice bodies and their respective administrative financial independence; and reform of the electoral model: definition of a new model, composition of electoral administration bodies, electoral legislation, electoral justice bodies, “among other aspects that contribute to the integrity of the entire electoral process, so that in the future there will be no more excuses that could lead people to violence”. The PR was speaking this morning, in the city of Maputo, on the occasion of the Symposium on Mozambican Constitutionalism. On that occasion, Chapo assured that during this five-year period he will do everything he can to guarantee the financial independence of the judiciary, “within the principles established by the Constitution of the Republic”.
