The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has arrested a citizen accused of qualified theft in the city of Matola, Maputo province. The suspect is accused of stealing several items from different residences.

Quoted in an article in the newspaper Domingo, SERNIC spokesperson João Adriano said that the suspect is part of a group of inmates who escaped from the penitentiary in Maputo province, where he had been serving a sentence of more than 16 years since 2020 for committing the same type of crime and, outside of his cells, continued to commit crimes.

“We have evidence of this individual’s involvement, because some of his property was seized, including four televisions, mobile phones and some of the instruments he used to break into homes,” the spokesperson revealed.

João Adriano added that the group of suspects includes three other citizens who are currently on the run

The 36-year-old suspect, in turn, admits to having stolen the property. “I was captured at my home, and I confirm the accusation.”.
