Last year, the Government failed to pay a debt of 3.4 billion Meticais. The Government's non-payment of the debt in question was due to limitations in revenue collection due to the instability observed after the electoral period, according to the Annual Public Debt Report.

The list of the main creditors of the debt that the Government did not pay last year includes the following countries: Portugal, (largest creditor), has received just over 1.8 billion meticais; International Monetary Fund, with around 718.7 million meticais; Russia, with a receivable amount of around 259.9 million meticais; Islamic Development Bank, with around 206.2 million; and India, with a debt receivable of around 102.7 million Meticais.

"The transition of these amounts to 2025 implies additional pressure on the State's treasury, given the increase in financial commitments that must be honored in the next budgetary year. This challenging scenario accentuates the urgent need to implement effective measures to mitigate the risks associated with debt service", indicates the Government report, cited in a publication in the newspaper "O País".

The stock of outstanding debt worsens when we add 394.3 million dollars of outstanding commitments with creditors who do not consider debt relief to the country under the terms agreed with the Paris Club, namely: Libya (253.38 million dollars); Angola (61.45 million dollars); Bulgaria ($57.8 million); and Poland (21.7 million dollars).

The document also indicates that the Government is in negotiations with the aforementioned creditors, to find coordinated solutions to settle the debts.
